Our Program
Specific classes and number of hours taken in our Alternative Certification Program will vary depending on type of certification sought.
Preservice:
You will take between 15 and 20 courses during the pre-service period. Our Curriulum outlines which courses you must take during the pre-service period. You must also have thirty (30) hours of classroom observation in the subject in which you wish to teach.
Internship:
During your first year of teaching, you will take 3 online courses, Integrating Technology into the (Content Area) Classroom, Internet Literacy – Making the Most of the Web, and Integrating Technology with Classroom Teaching and Learning Online.
During the first semester of your Internship, you will also have 4 Saturday sessions. Your campus Mentor Teacher will attend these sessions with you. Two sessions will be devoted to Texas Beginning Educator Support System (TxBESS) Training, and two sessions will cover material from Teacher Expectations & Student Achievement (TESA). TESA is a dynamic, research-based training program that is designed to promote teacher behaviors that promote serving all students, decrease student discipline problems, improve student academic performance, and classroom climate
